Zan's gone again

This feels very unsettling - Zan was only home from Japan for 2 days and now she's gone again to Alpha (her 10 day creative writing workshop). We knew it would be crazy, but I didn't realize how unsettled it would feel to me. I'm sure she'll be fine and have a blast, but she did leave with all sorts of conflicting emotions.
We had a very pleasant drive to and from Pittsburgh. On the drive there with Z, we had our usual quota of fascinating discussions about everything under the sun (my favorite activity!) Dropping her off was mixed: I could feel the exciting atmosphere of creative kids all over the place, but it also seemed awkward as Z figures out where she fits in this year. We had a scare over a missing power cord (which turned out to be a non-issue). We left quickly, figuring that Z would settle in sooner if left to deal with it. As a Mom, I'd love to stay and wait until everything feels wonderful (maybe gather everyone together and tell them to be nice to my kid? - Right!) Logically, I know that leaving and letting her work it out is the best thing for her - but I still feel mean to just abandon her there. It's silly, I know, but it's a Mom thing.
We stopped at the local JoAnn's - I had the excuse of needing some scotch tape to work on organizing travel info for Cape Cod on the drive home. Really, it should be added to the list of Ways to Tell You are Obsessed with Re-enacting: Stopping at every fabric store when you travel, just to make sure you aren't missing any bargains. Well, this obsessive behavior was rewarded - we found 2 different types of linen blends for just over $1 per yard! This will guarantee more obsessive behavior in the future. I can see hitting JoAnn's all over the country!
