Howl, fireworks - what more could you ask?

Howl's Moving Castle was great! I'm usually a purist and get really annoyed when a movie deviates from a favorite book. But Miyazaki is the exception. This movie certainly was different from the book (which I love), but I didn't care at all. Miyazaki is so good that his version can stand alone without being upsetting.
Z's Japan trip has had delightful, but unexpected consequences: her subset of the American students who went have bonded bigtime. They decided to get together before the fireworks and play frisbee in their yukatas. Well, the yakatas only partially happened, and the frisbee didn't happen at all, but the important thing is that they hung out and had fun. J and I could relax and enjoy the fireworks (better than ever, Shaker!) knowing that Z was hanging out with friends. Meeting up with her afterward in the crowd was a bit tricky - but, hey, if you wait long enough, there's no one else there, so it all works. Z's only going to be home 2 days before she goes off to Alpha, but at least this day was a good one!
