One of my favorite signs of spring . . .

is the start of garage sale season! I hadn't even thought about it until we drove by a church yesterday with a "Giant Garage Sale" sign. So, we hit the first sales of the season today and it was great! The first sale (the one where we saw the sign) was okay: We got 3 bags of batting for Zan's Totoro, a scraping tool and a pierogi press. The best part of that sale was that we saw Ms. Troha - what could possibly be better than having someone tell you how wonderful your kid is! Plus we bought some of her lemon squares from her bake sale.

Then we decided to stop at the sale at St. Ann's. I was puzzled when we got there because there were very few cars in the lot (and in previous years, the place has been packed). I checked the ad for the sale and realized that the sale was ending in 20 minutes. Normally I wouldn't have bothered, but since we were right there, we went in. They told us that basically anything we could have anything we wanted for $5. How could we resist?! Jim actually found 7 pieces of fabric suitable for garb (most of it really nice wool). Plus we found 2 pillows that go great with the comforter we just got Zan for next year, two trays for bringing stuff to potlucks, and a gift for one of Zan's friend (we won't give that one away, but it's adorable and new with tags!)

All in all, a great start to the season!
