X has been telling us for years . . .
Aug. 23rd, 2007 07:41 amthat we should be stricter with the dogs, but we have just been too lazy. (Funny, we were always strict with our kids and look how great they turned out - so we should have known better)
Now things have come to a head. Georgie has gotten more touchy as she is getting older. She has started snapping at Yoshi more often and the other day she went too far. She snapped at Yoshi as I was getting out their dog food. I told her a stern "No!" and did a few moments of dominance which usually gets with her looking sheepish and apologetic. This time, however, the second I let her go, she snapped at Yoshi again! Totally unacceptable and surprising!
The solution to the problem was amazingly simple: If we put Yoshi on a down-stay at the other end of the kitchen before he gets too excited about the food, he stays put and quiet so Georgie feels no need to "reprimand" him. It makes for a much more peaceful mealtime and there is no concern about snapping.
Ok, X, from now on we listen to you - without taking years about it!
