No accessories needed
Oct. 30th, 2006 01:56 pmOur "Orange and Nerdy" pumpkins are so clearly nerdy that we did not need to resort to pocket protectors, slide rules, or any accessories at all. Zan is a purist and insisted that the whole point is to express ourselves in the actual carving of the pumpkin faces. Of course, she was right as usual. The glasses and hair do add, but since they are attached to the faces, they are acceptable.
We ended up doing a Nerdy Weird Al, a regular Weird Al, and a Bill Gates. As always, no one else will have any idea who they are supposed to be, but that's typical for our family. We go to great pains to get things the way we want, despite the fact that no one else quite gets it.
It reminds me of the time in the 70's when J went to a Halloween party as Arthur Dent and NO ONE got it. Now, if he went to a party today in a bathrobe with a fish in his ear and carrying a towel, most people would get it right away. Of course, that's why he had that costume in the 70's and not now. The most obscure the better.
