These are some of my good friends . . .
Aug. 30th, 2006 01:01 pmbut sometimes I can't imagine what they are thinking . . .
We had our gourmet dinner group at our house on Saturday. The food was lovely and the pre-dinner drink (Guava Treasure) was very tasty and packed a bit of a kick. We were learning about Sauvignon Blancs, and it was amusing to find that a wine which was described as tasting like "cat pee on a gooseberry bush" actually tasted good when paired with the proper food.
So, why in the world, in the middle of such a pleasant dinner, would people find it necessary to discuss a recent book about how disgusting America's food industry is? I'm sure that it is all terribly true, but did this really seem like the time and place for such a discussion? When people refused to change the subject, I found myself hiding in the kitchen. True, I got a lot of clean-up done, but that is totally unlike me: I'd rather enjoy my guests and be faced with massive cleaning-up the next day.
Talk about a waste of wonderful food and drink!
