A high school Latin Club . . .

sounds like it would all deadly dull and serious. But I got to go to the end-of-year Latin Club banquet and it was a lot of fun. The kids were basically wild and crazy and extremely silly. It was a re-enactment of a Roman feast (minus the true orgy part, since parents and teachers were present). The kids who were there for the first time played the part of the slaves, waiting on the more experienced kids who were laying on mats on the floor while they ate. The food was great, there were silly skits and songs - just to give you an idea of how silly it could get, the teachers played a musical group called the Racketeers, wearing tennis racket cases on their head - that's what I call silly! A good time was had by all.

I first realized how much fun Latin Club was when Zan got home from Latin Convention so hoarse from screaming that she couldn't talk for days. She just recently was elected to be Latin Club Treasurer. Again, this sounds dull and serious. She does need to handle the monies - but her most important role is to be in charge of Spirit (and I mean with a capital S). They do cheers, songs, dances, and extreme screaming - the Spirit Competition is the highlight of Convention. I predict that they will do even better at Spirit than usual with Zan in charge - she is totally into it. I think we will have a fun and noisy year.
