for Georgie (and, subsequently, for me). We hadn't had one at night for a while, so I'd completely forgotten what a nightmare they are. Last night's was a particularly bad one. We have a system that generally works somewhat well, but it didn't work at all last night. The herbal remedy didn't seem to do a thing. As usual, during thunderstorms, we tethered Georgie on a short leash to the dresser. That at least usually keeps her from shredding our sheets, doors, etc. Last night, she was so freaked out that she rolled the entire rug underneath her (quite an accomplishment for such a little girl). Then she got into a system of backing up as far as she could, then running and taking a flying leap - the fact that she was choking herself didn't seem to bother her at all. She actually was able to get the dresser to move a tiny bit. None of this was at all conducive to sleep. I tried resting on the floor with her for a while and this seemed to calm her down some - not, as I'd like to think, because my presence is so calming, but probably because my body messed up her trajectory. Eventually the storm passed, but not soon enough for much sleep. Georgie can always sleep all day, but I've still got to work today - and I'm dead tired!
