I didn't wimp out last night,
Jan. 6th, 2005 06:12 pmthanks to Zan. When I heard that there was going to be major freezing rain, I was debating whether it would be wise to go to SCA or not. Zan made it clear that if she could go, we would definitely be going - since she couldn't go, it was my choice, but I would be a total wimp if I stayed home. Since J seemed to agree (although more politely), I went and of course I was very glad.
As always, SCA lifted my spirits a great deal. J had just made me a quick (and only $2 in materials!) kumihimo stand, so I was able to practice several different styles of braiding. The stand made all the difference, and the braiding actually worked! After months of dismal failure, it looks like I will be able to do this after all! I decided that I prefer the flat braid, so now all I need to do is get thicker floss and I'll be ready to roll.
Since many people were wimpier than Zan, there was a small-ish turnout, which meant people were more available to chat and answer questions. Thus, I had a good discussion about Flemish garb and settled my sleeve question, figured out where to get the type of pin I need to round out my early-period garb, had a good chat with Noelle about her med school career, etc. The roads weren't nearly as bad as predicted, so, yet again, Zan turns out to be right after all (following in her mother's footsteps, of course).
Finally, when we got home we found out the exact dates when our Japanese exchange student will be here, so we can finally start making specific plans. Now that plans are starting to fall into place, it makes all our fun plans for this year begin to seem more real. I can't wait!
