"Every day's a special day . . ."
May. 13th, 2005 10:29 amThis is very random, but I'm just struck at how memory works.
The other day S was wearing her Freshman shirt. (This is another whole story: S loves being a freshman, and has professed that she wants to be one forever, especially since she is the only Freshman in her Playwriting Class and everyone teases her about it. Two of the Senior girls made her a special Freshman t-shirt, with the word "Freshman" across the front and a purple backpack painted on the back. This was incredibly sweet - have I mentioned that if someone does something especially nice for one of my kids I adores them forever?)
Anyway, seeing S in her Freshman shirt, I mentioned that, oh yes, this was Freshman Day - The reply was "Every day is Freshman Day". This triggered a memory of a very old, stupid jingle from my childhood ("Every day's a special day at Thrifimart"). Now, we all have our favorites jingles and commercials from when we were kids which we remember fondly, but this is different. I swear that this one hadn't crossed my mind even once since I was a kid. It has no particular meaning or relevance whatsoever. Yet, it popped into my head out of nowhere and I remembered the full lyrics and tune. How much useless stuff is crammed and stored into my brain?!
